This Summer Pet Shop Santa Cruz will be offering a fun, interactive and educational summer class for kids ages 5-17. Meet and learn about many different species of animals from all around the world. Dive in depth to learn about anatomy, life cycles, defense mechanisms, how animals hunt and eat prey, their natural habitats and much more. Classes will be split into two age groups, 5-10 and 11-17 to make sure programs are catered to different education levels. Classes will be 1 hour long with a presentation, meeting of the animals we discussed in class and art projects. Classes can be taken individually or consecutively. If classes are taken individually you may choose which class you would like to attend. If you choose the full curriculum package you receive a discounted rate and are able to attend all 9 classes offered.
How to book:
Classes can be booked online at Petshopsantacruz.com, simply select the classes you would like to attend or the full curriculum package for your age group, put them in your cart and checkout! Once your class order purchase has been received you will receive your enrollment forms. After your forms have been signed and submitted your child will be put on our roster. Classes can also be booked in store, payment is due at the time of booking. Payments can be accepted via cash or card. Please fill out the form below with your contact information so we can inform you about important class information and updates.
There will be a total of 9 classes, each discussing a different subject. Classes will be Monday, Wednesday and Friday in the afternoon. Classes can be taken individually or consecutively. Classes must be paid for in advance and payments are non refundable. Masks will be required for unvaccinated individuals. Classes will be held at London Nelson Community Center (formerly Louden Nelson). Please accompany your child to the first class to sign paperwork before leaving.

Class Overview:
In our Colubrids Vs. Pythons class we are going to take an in depth look at the differences between species of snakes. Students will learn how to identify species of snakes based structure and unique characteristics such as heat pits. Students will learn about sensory organs, defense mechanisms, anatomy, life cycles and the natural habitats of these snakes. Students will also learn about the differences between our local species of snakes vs. tropical species.
Class Ambassadors:
In this class we will be meeting an assortment of snake species including Boa, Python, King Snake, Racer, Garter and more.
Class Project:
For this classes project we will be making snake plants with painted pots.

Class Overview:
In our Shed- What Is It? class we are going to take an in depth look at the shedding and estivation process of animals. Students will learn how animals shed and estivate, what enables them to do so, the different types of shedding animals do and how shed is disposed of.

In this class we will be meeting an assortment of species including geckos, snakes, tarantulas, frogs and lizards.
Class Project:
For this classes project we will be making shed skin frames.

Class Overview:
In our World of Geckos class we are going to take an in depth look at the differences between species of geckos.
Students will learn about the anatomy, diets, unique characteristics such as sticky toes, defense mechanisms, life cycles and the natural habitats of these geckos. Students will also learn about the differences between our local species of geckos vs. tropical species.
Class Ambassadors:
In this class we will be meeting an assortment of gecko species including African Fat Tail, Leopard, Crested, Gargoyle, Chahoua, Leachie, and Mourning Geckos.
Class Project:
For this class project we will be making beaded geckos.

VENOMOUS CREATURES CLASS 7/18/22
Class Overview:
In our Venomous Creatures class we are going to take an in depth look at the differences between front-fanged, rear-fanged and other venomous species of reptiles. Students will learn about the anatomy of these animals and how their venom is injecting into prey along with how the venom affects their prey once bitten. Students will also learn about the unique characteristics of these animals, such as a pointed nose and what its purpose is. Life cycles and natural habitats will also be discussed. Students will also learn about the differences between our local species of and tropical species.
Class Ambassadors:
In this class we will be meeting Barons Racers and a Mexican Beaded Lizard. *Disclaimer- these animals are venomous and may not be available for touching or handling. *
Class Project:
For this class project we will be making liquid venom jars and venom charting posters.

During our Final Project class students are going to be able to chart the life cycle of their favorite animal they learned about during the course.

For this class project we will be making a full life cycle art project for your favorite animal you learned about in the course. We will also be making a mini diorama of this animal's natural habitat.
